Summary

A fresh, hilarious, and relatable collection of essays about everything from motherhood and marriage to sobriety and work-life balance (or imbalance) from the nationally bestselling author of the “honest, complicated” (SheKnows Idiot

As a busy mom with a newborn and a toddler, viral sensation Laura Clery has plenty to say about the ups and downs of pregnancy, childbirth, and being the best mom she can be while also balancing career success, sobriety, marriage, and creativity。

With her engaging and witty voice, she pulls back the curtain on all aspects of her offbeat life, including dealing with addiction and virtual AA meetings during a pandemic and maintaining healthy relationships with her son, daughter, husband, and most importantly, herself。 Laura’s life has changed a great deal since she wrote Idiot, but what hasn’t changed is her ability to celebrate the laugh-out-loud moments of everyday life and share the tough times with humor, honesty, and heart。

Can it get worse than being an irrelevant cog in a big machine? Sure it can。 One can be a breeder and have problems with addiction。 And, of course, the others are idiots。 Now, notice how bright this replaceable cog can be。 And the more skin exposed, the smarter it gets。 The vocabulary has changed, the job is the same: a forgettable clown to entertain the public in between acts。 And when the clown breaks, there are a hundred ready to take the spotlight。 So sad。 So useless。

I’ve still got 17 minutes left until I’m finished (got the audiobook version) but I can’t even wait that long to review。 I enjoyed every bit of this one, I think it’s must-read for all mothers and women。 Laura made me feel so seen, from the things she worried about to her highs and lows in motherhood。 I do wish there was more on the doula vs。 doctor drama since both were heavily criticized by fans (and apparently other doulas) but I guess that’s just me being nosy, heh。 Laura’s unapologetic hone I’ve still got 17 minutes left until I’m finished (got the audiobook version) but I can’t even wait that long to review。 I enjoyed every bit of this one, I think it’s must-read for all mothers and women。 Laura made me feel so seen, from the things she worried about to her highs and lows in motherhood。 I do wish there was more on the doula vs。 doctor drama since both were heavily criticized by fans (and apparently other doulas) but I guess that’s just me being nosy, heh。 Laura’s unapologetic honesty about motherhood and self-awareness is so refreshing and so needed。 I hope someday we can expect a third book from her! 。。。more

Honestly this book was exactly what I needed at this moment in time。 I laughed out loud many times during a very stressful period。 I can’t wait to read her other book。

Unflinchingly honest, brutally truthful, and beautiful, Laura's second memoir more than delivers what she promises in her comedy。 Her stories of life and love and recovery aren't offered as a roadmap, she's definitely not saying do it my way。 Instead, she's saying, we're all mad here, let's hang together and fxck the stigma! She narrates the audiobook and is fantastic at it, as you'd expect。 Unflinchingly honest, brutally truthful, and beautiful, Laura's second memoir more than delivers what she promises in her comedy。 Her stories of life and love and recovery aren't offered as a roadmap, she's definitely not saying do it my way。 Instead, she's saying, we're all mad here, let's hang together and fxck the stigma! Thanks to Netgalley and Gallery books for the ARC of this! I’m only familiar with Laura Clery in passing from social media - I’ve seen some of her videos as herself and some as Pamela Pumpkin for example, so I knew she was funny but not a ton about her life。 I thought this was really interesting, and I was really moved by how she described certain parenting struggles and how she was trying to be for her kids。 I would recommend to people who like humorous looks at mental health - Jenny Lawson fan Thanks to Netgalley and Gallery books for the ARC of this! Happy (day after 😬) publication day to Laura Clery! Idiots was FANTASTIC。 It takes some serious courage to bare one’s soul and put all of yourself out there to the world。 And not just the happy, pretty, polished parts, but all of it - the successes, mistakes, trauma, hilarity, pain, and love that make us who we are。 Idiots was hilarious and heartbreaking, poignant and surprising, and a nice reminder that life is messy (literally and figuratively) for all of us, but our messes (whatever they may Happy (day after 😬) publication day to Laura Clery! Authentic, brutally honest, hilarious, humble and so many more! I finished this book in 2 days - went for the audio book as Laura’s narrating skills are on point 🙏🏻 There is nothing better than seeing someone who has achieved so much in a personal, professional and spiritual level being so vulnerable, honest and down to earth as she is in a quest to help others and make them laugh! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review。A follow-up to her first novel, Idiot, Laura Clery's Idiots gets real (and sometimes really graphic) about childbirth and motherhood, marriage and relationships, and the hows and whys of living life as a human being。This was a fun read! Idiots is Laura Clery’s tell all book about a look into her life as a wife and a mother。 I received an ARC of this book and I have never laughed so hard。 Clery did not hold back this time around, sharing story after story of the struggles through postpartum amongst other challenges。 This book is honest and real。 It is for readers who are not easily offended。 I for one, loved every page。

I love Laura Clery。 She’s hilarious, honest, relatable, and humorously crude in the best possible way。 This book is full of funny moments as well as tender, sometimes painful ones。 If you are a mother to young children, I bet you will enjoy this! While the book does discuss some painful and dark topics, it also captures the joys of motherhood。 Thanks to Net Galley and Gallery Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review。

I do not rate non fiction/memoirs。 I have followed Laura Clery on all forms of social media since I was introduced to Pamela Pumpkin。 I love when she makes videos about her husband Stephen who is from England and shows how they have different words for the same item。 Most importantly I love when she is real and honest about being a mom。 Even though I have never met her, she gives me a sense of community。 That being said when I saw this on @netgalley I knew I needed to read this。 I loved this loo I do not rate non fiction/memoirs。 I have followed Laura Clery on all forms of social media since I was introduced to Pamela Pumpkin。 I love when she makes videos about her husband Stephen who is from England and shows how they have different words for the same item。 Most importantly I love when she is real and honest about being a mom。 Even though I have never met her, she gives me a sense of community。 That being said when I saw this on @netgalley I knew I needed to read this。 I loved this look into her experiences as a mother。 The last chapter is all about her neurodivergent family, her son's recent autism diagnosis being one of the main topics。 She is funny, real and honest。 I like that she doesn't portray the perfect social media image。 This is the sequel to her first book, Idiot which was more about her struggles as an addict。 This one was a quick and easy read that made me feel less alone in the sometimes lonely world of motherhood。 。。。more

One of the hallmarks of Clery's last book, IDIOT, was her unrelenting drive, humor, and optimism; that's not only present and accounted for here, but it has transformed an otherwise-just-okay rumination on childbirth, body positivity, and motherhood (among so many other things) into a bonafide laugh-out-loud inspirational bonanza。 Admittedly, I'm drawing from my own experiences from being alongside my wife during our child's birth, our post-partum events (mostly hers), and general fatherhood act One of the hallmarks of Clery's last book, IDIOT, was her unrelenting drive, humor, and optimism; that's not only present and accounted for here, but it has transformed an otherwise-just-okay rumination on childbirth, body positivity, and motherhood (among so many other things) into a bonafide laugh-out-loud inspirational bonanza。 Admittedly, I'm drawing from my own experiences from being alongside my wife during our child's birth, our post-partum events (mostly hers), and general fatherhood activities, but so very much of this resonated tremendously。 Clery's willingness to put many aspects of her life on display clearly has its own pros and cons, and, especially so in this work, I connected and felt, well, less isolated in parenthood。 Her decision to put so many of her life experiences on paper, like in her last book, will hopefully help many others in their respective struggles。 It's evident that as Clery grows as a person, she's continuing to divine ways that not only convert said wisdom into varied forms of success, but to also empower others and bring them along for the ride。 There's some outrageous stuff in here, for sure。 It's a trip of a read and worth every minute。 Many thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the advance read。 。。。more

I have adored Laura Clery for years, and I enjoyed her first book a lot but I could definitely tell there were things she held back from talking about even though there was a lot of shocking revelations。 Now, in “Idiots”, Laura let’s us in on some of the things she was ashamed to tell us in the last book。 More importantly, she tackles her own experience with pregnancy, motherhood, and marriage and doesn’t hold back with the struggles that she has faced with all 3。 Cheating, drugs, placenta eatin I have adored Laura Clery for years, and I enjoyed her first book a lot but I could definitely tell there were things she held back from talking about even though there was a lot of shocking revelations。 Now, in “Idiots”, Laura let’s us in on some of the things she was ashamed to tell us in the last book。 More importantly, she tackles her own experience with pregnancy, motherhood, and marriage and doesn’t hold back with the struggles that she has faced with all 3。 Cheating, drugs, placenta eating, work/mom balance, postpartum depression, and a 90 year old “muse” are al talked about in length。 I’d this very different then any other memoir out there? No。 However Laura’s wit is what makes her life experience very entertaining to read about。 When we get to the chapter about her experience with realizing her son has autism, her rawness comes through and despite her humor you really feel how much she loves her children。 。。。more

Idiots by Laura Clery is a candid collection of essays about her life as a mother of two young children。 I hadn’t read her previous book, Idiot, but I get the sense that she covered much of her life prior to having children and this book picks up on where that one ends。 I have followed her on social media for a little while and appreciate her candor, creativity, and crass humor。 There is some content overlap in the book and her social media。 I really enjoyed much of this book, some parts didn’t Idiots by Laura Clery is a candid collection of essays about her life as a mother of two young children。 I hadn’t read her previous book, Idiot, but I get the sense that she covered much of her life prior to having children and this book picks up on where that one ends。 I have followed her on social media for a little while and appreciate her candor, creativity, and crass humor。 There is some content overlap in the book and her social media。 I really enjoyed much of this book, some parts didn’t work well for me。 The pacing was a little frenetic at times and like she was trying to one-up herself with her experiences stacked on each other。 I hate criticizing memoirs because it takes so much for someone to put themselves out there and expose their lives and shortcomings, potentially putting themselves and their loved ones at risk for derision and dissection。 I really appreciated her honesty and vulnerability。 I especially loved the parts where she discussed her family, especially her children and cousin who struggled with addiction。 I found it fascinating to have a backseat to her life as someone so successful on social media, independently pursuing creative endeavors on her time。 As a mother to two young children, but with a desk job, my life looks very different, but also our struggles with parenthood raising children are the same。 Thank you Gallery Books and NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
